Berkeley Homes progresses its proposals along the OKR

Berkeley Homes is pleased to confirm that it has submitted amendments to its planning application for a mixed-use development at Malt Street.

Over the past 12 months Berkeley has made changes to its proposal to ensure it delivers upon the Council’s Old Kent Road Area Action Plan as well as the strategic objectives of Southwark and the Greater London Authority.

The Scheme delivers 35% affordable housing, 1,300 new homes and 7,000 sqm of employment floorspace of which 4,500sqm is dedicated light industrial space. The scheme also continues to dedicate over 50% of the site to providing exceptional public open space, along with delivering high quality architecture and excellent levels of residential quality.

Berkeley Homes proposes green vision for Old Kent Road development

Berkeley Homes (South East London) Ltd is delighted to confirm that it has submitted a planning application to the London Borough of Southwark for a mixed-used development at Malt Street, Old Kent Road. The scheme proposes up to 1,050 homes and up to 5,500 sq.m of non-residential floorspace.

The plans represent the culmination of several years of design, masterplanning and consultation to maximise local aspirations for connectivity, job creation, a mix of homes and usable open space. The scheme will be the first large-scale development to come forward along the Old Kent Road and will provide the design and quality benchmark for future projects in the area.

The proposals will deliver a significant number of much needed new homes for Londoners. In addition to these new homes, the scheme will create over 400 new permanent jobs and over 1,000 jobs, including 40 training apprenticeships, during construction. 

Integral to the proposals is the new public realm with Berkeley giving back over 50% of the site to public open space. This will take the form of a new linear park and public square, and will be home to London’s first sculpture park.

Alongside this consultation, we are preparing to host a second public exhibition to present evolving plans for our Malt Street regeneration project.
